Mr. and Mrs. George and Barbara Vittas
George and Barbara Vittas are natives of New York City. George was born in Astoria, Queens, one of three sons of Jack and Ethel Vittas (Karavitis) who were raised in the traditions of the Greek Orthodox Church at St. Demetrios Cathedral. Barbara was born in Brooklyn to Angelo and Georgia Doukas, one of four children raised in Sheepshead Bay at Three Hierarchs Church.
A graduate of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Massachusetts, George served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Married in 1968, George and Barbara have two children, Stephanie Skelley of La Grange, Illinois and John Vittas of North Richland Hills, Texas, and four grandchildren. In 1979, George and Barbara moved to Bedford, Texas with the relocation of the headquarters of American Airlines to the Dallas / Fort Worth area. George remained with American Airlines as one of its leaders in airport planning, engineering, and corporate real estate before joining AECOM to assume responsibility for its global airport planning and engineering consulting practice. With Barbara, the family was among the founders of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. John The Baptist in Euless, Texas, in the Mid-Cities of the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex. George has been a member and president of the Parish Council and currently serves as its Treasurer, as well as a member of the Metropolis of Denver Council. Barbara is an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society as past President of the local Parish Chapter, President of the Metropolis Board and member of the National Executive Board, and currently a member of the National Board of Philoptochos. In 2017, George was given the Offikion of Archon Ekdikos by his All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew, upon his investiture into the Order of Saint Andrew.
