Mr. and Mrs. Spiro and Chrisoula Kailas

I have served as an active member of various Greek Orthodox Churches where I have resided, ever since I was a young boy.  When I was 8 years old, I became an altar boy at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, New York.  I went on to serve until I was 17 years old, attaining the title of Proto-Acolyte of the altar boys.

In 1973, my Family moved to Fort Lee, New Jersey and became members of Saint John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Tenafly, New Jersey.  It was there that I met my wife, Chrisoula.  We met through a mutual friend, who happened to be our priest’s daughter, Karen Tsamutalis.  We were married in October 1979.  Chrisoula was a member of the choir, and then became a Sunday School teacher.  I became her assistant, and we continued to teach Sunday School until we moved to San Diego in 1986.  During our first few years in San Diego, Chrisoula began to teach Sunday School and I was asked to be a member of the Parish Council, which I gladly accepted.  I served on the Council until my mother became ill and required much of my available time.  I felt that I could not provide the time required to serve on the Council during my mother’s failing health.  My Mother passed away in the summer of 2007, at the age of 95 and I again felt that I was able to allocate the time necessary to serve on our Parish Council.  Since my return, I have enjoyed working with Father Michael and the Parish Council Members in managing the administrative and financial matters of our Church.  Additionally, in September 2017, I was asked by Father Michael to lead the Advanced Planning Committee, whose main purpose is to develop an all-inclusive master plan for the phased development of our vacant property that will take our community, when completed, to the next level of serving our Parishioners.

Those who know me in the Parish will attest to the fact that I am a hardworking, dedicated, caring, and a thoughtful individual that was brought up respecting and following the doctrines and principles of our Orthodox, Christian Church.  My Wife and I are now doing the same with our son, George, and daughter, Eva-Marie.
