The John P. Mercuris Family

Mr. John Mercuris was born and raised in Iowa by Greek immigrant parents who instilled in him the enduring values of the Greek Orthodox faith, hard work, family, and philanthropy. By the age of eight, he was working alongside his father seven days a week after school—an experience that shaped the strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit that would guide him throughout his life. He launched his first business venture as a child and another at age seventeen, beginning a career that spanned more than four decades in the development, design, and leasing of 118 major shopping malls across the United States and Puerto Rico, representing over 6,000 retail tenants.

In addition to his work in commercial real estate, Mr. Mercuris facilitated the development of seventeen hotels and a major university student housing project. In 1976, he founded The Iowa Energy Foundation, which advocated against future nuclear electrical energy generation projects in the United States.

The Greek Orthodox faith has always remained central to his life. He is deeply grateful for the love and support of his two children and five grandchildren.
