William Spell attended the University of Minnesota where he earned a BS degree in business and an MBA degree. Years later, he continued his relationship with the University, working at the Carlson School of Management as an adjunct professor teaching a course on business management & leadership.
Bill began his career as an investment banker at a large Midwest investment bank where he worked for seven years. During that time, he became a principal and when he left was head of the corporate finance department.

In early 1988, he founded Spell Capital Partners, a private equity firm that specializes in lower middle market leveraged buyouts. The firm manages over $1.0 billion of capital and has 94 active investments. The firm recently transitioned to the Spell Family Office and has been investing on its behalf since 2018.
Bill has been married for 37 years, and he and his spouse Tiki have two adult children and one grandchild. The Spell Family (Speliopoulos) emigrated from Peloponnese, Greece over 100 years ago.

Bill is a member of the Archdiocesan Council of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and serves on the Executive Committee. He is a fulfilled member of Leadership 100, an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and a past Parish Council President of St. Mary’s Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bill is on the CVC Committee at the Metropolis of Chicago, and he was a recipient of the Medal of St. Paul.
